Held annually on February 15th was The Ancient Roman Festival-Lupercalia. The festival celebrated fertility, purification, and prosperity. Festivities included rituals performed by Luperci (priests of Lupercalia) of goat and dog sacrifices, the flogging of women who wished to conceive, and an offering of salted meal cakes-prepared by the Vestal Virgins (priestess of The Goddess Vesta).
